Position Description: Sr. Manager, Marketing and Communications (SMMC)

Status: Full-time

Reports to: VP, Institutional Advancement

Position Overview

The Sr. Manager, Marketing and Communications (SMMC) develops and directs the implementation of all marketing and public relations strategies for the organization, its programs, and activities. They lead brand initiatives and campaigns to heighten CityDance’s institutional identity, promote awareness and recognition of the organization to a broad and diverse constituency, generate and identify new audiences, and support fundraising activities. This role collaborates regularly with artistic directors and senior staff and manages a marketing & engagement associate as well as contract positions (design, social, etc.).

Primary Responsibilities

  • Direct and implement an integrated marketing and communications strategy for CityDance in alignment with the organization’s strategic plan, while also creating integrated campaigns specific to individual programs, events, and performances as well as fundraising initiatives
  • Create a brand strategy and positioning that will establish and enhance the organization’s profile, image, and position within the field
  • Build relationships with press, donors, other arts organizations/partners, and dance influencers to promote CityDance and advance the organization’s reputation
  • Develop creative advertising strategies for specific events and programs and manage marketing and promotion budgets to support the organization’s programs and revenue and fundraising goals
  • Collect and track marketing and development related data and provide analysis summarizing data and trends
  • Use data to determine advertising, promotion, and pricing strategies in collaboration with appropriate staff in order to ensure an effective audience, student and donor retention, and acquisition
  • Establish strong working relationships with the leadership of the organization to establish marketing and communications priorities
  • Supervision and Management of the marketing and communications team

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years mid-to senior-level marketing, development, or communications experience in the non-profit sector, preferably in the performing arts
  • Strong communications skills, with the ability to effectively communicate, promote and translate the CityDance mission/vision and programs to diverse audiences, communities, donors, press, and other individual stakeholders
  • A strategic and creative professional who is responsive to changing priorities, opportunities, and challenges
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment to problem-solve and contribute ideas
  • Passionate performing arts consumer and advocate with deep expertise in arts audiences and arts media
  • Well-versed in communications best practices as well as current social media practices and online advertising/promotion
  • Talent for building organizational presence and developing compelling marketing/promotional campaigns across multiple channels
  • Persuasive written and visual communicator with a keen eye for graphics, design, photography, and video
  • Comfortable utilizing customer relationship management systems and email platforms as well as making data-driven decisions
  • Existing relationships with arts publications/press, influencers, and other performing arts organizations is a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, arts administration, or a related field                                                           

Compensation and Benefits

Non-profit salary commensurate with experience.
