The PHILADANCO! & CityDance Intensive is ideal for students interested in challenging ballet technique and contemporary dance. Daily training includes ballet, pointe, men’s class, modern and jazz styles explored through Horton and Graham techniques taught by PHILADANCO! guest artists. Participants/dancers will better understand the African dance diaspora and its influence on the development of American contemporary dance expression in the PHILADANCO! tradition by participating in dance history sessions and artist talks.

All students will have repertory experiences of high caliber in ballet and contemporary forms. Ballet repertory will include American neoclassical work by CityDance teaching artists. Dancers will also learn contemporary work from the current repertory of PHILADANCO! as well as a repertory created by PHILADANCO! guest artists. 

Dancers will present their classical, modern, contemporary, and jazz repertory in a showing for family and friends at CityDance Studio Theater at the Music Center at Strathmore on the last day of the intensive. Year-round CityDance Conservatory students will carry this new work into the 2023-2024 season.
