This one-week intensive brings together guest artists Baye & Asa (Amadi ‘Baye’ Washington & Sam ‘Asa’ Pratt) and Tariq Darrell O’Meally in choreographic collaboration with young pre-professional and professional training program dancers.  Baye and Asa are known for their contemporary movement art projects utilizing Hip Hop & African dance languages as the foundation of technique. These techniques’ rhythms inform how they energetically confront contemporary dance & theater.

Tariq Darrell O’Meally, Director of the Black Light Symposium and artist, producer, and curator, will bring a contemporary dance approach based on a post-contemporary context. The use of improvisation and composition will leverage the power within through introspection and vulnerability.

Through a collaborative approach, these guest artists will engage dancers’ choreographic impulses as a guide to deepening access to their unique physical voice, moving ideas towards expression. All dancers will start each day with technique classes followed by movement and repertory workshops, and the week will culminate with a  final sharing of new work created.

All CityDance Conservatory Intensives and Workshops require an audition. Learn more about our in-person and video auditions here.
