All Levels Sevillanas

About This Class

Sevillanas is a fun and exciting dance that enlivens any party and is essential in the repertoire of any flamenco dancer and for all who just love the art of flamenco. Sevillanas are divided in four sections called “coplas”. Sevillanas are danced in partners by children, teenagers and adults at nightclubs, parties, and most famously at the annual Feria de Abril in Sevilla. This class will dedicate one day to each of the coplas/sections so that by the end of the class the student will have learned all four Sevillanas. The class is suitable for those who are looking to review their Sevillanas and those looking to learn Sevillanas for the first time. Prior flamenco experience is helpful but not required; this class is suitable for dancers of all levels and styles.

More About Flamenco 

The dances of Spain are varied and rich in ethnic and regional traditions. Fluid arms and percussive footwork are hallmarks of Flamenco dance that are paralleled in the beautiful melodies and intricate rhythms of Flamenco music. Originating in the Andalusia region of southern Spain, the fire of Flamenco dance is reflective of its gypsy (Gitano) dancing roots and influences from Arabic traditions.

Students should wear exercise or dance apparel or similar clothes that permit viewing of body movement. It is recommended that women wear long skirts and men, slacks. Flamenco shoes/boots (preferred), hard soled shoe with a heel acceptable. Consult instructor for specific information on where to buy or obtain Flamenco shoes (women), Flamenco boots (men), or other Flamenco attire.

Cancellation/Reschedule Policy

If a class has low attendance, it may be subject to cancellation. Cancellation decisions for morning classes will be made by 9pm the night before and for evening classes by 3pm that day. EFFECTIVE NOVEMBER 6, 2023: In the event you cannot attend your purchased/scheduled drop-in class, please email adults@citydance.net by 9pm the day before to receive a full credit and/or reschedule your drop-in class. Cancellation emails received after 9pm the night before will receive a 50% class credit. If a cancellation email has not been sent before the start of class, our No Show policy takes effect and you will forfeit the full class credit.
