This June, The DREAM School graduated its 3rd class in school history. Jai’lyn Jackson and Helisa Cruz were both a part of the inaugural audition that would begin their journey toward this moment. In addition to their core training requirements at the school, both young women have participated as members of The DREAM School Performance Ensemble, committing additional hours of rehearsal each week. Over the past 3 years, they have performed in community events throughout the city; traveled to Ohio to participate in IABD (International Association of Blacks in Dance) and annually to New York City to take class with legendary master teaching artists; completed rigorous Summer Intensives; participated in residencies with renowned national and international professional dancers and choreographers; and witnessed countless professional dance performances by some of today’s most influential dance companies.
Jai’lyn is a graduate of McKinley Technology High School and will attend Winston Salem State University as a Biology major, pursuing her dream of becoming a Pediatrician. Helisa is a graduate of Basis DC and will attend Marymount Manhattan University as a Political Science major, following her passions for politics, social justice and advocacy.
The DREAM School celebrates all that Jai’lyn and Helisa have accomplished. They are overflowing with passion, full of big ideas and energized to share these passions and ideas with the world. Congratulations Jai’lyn and Helisa!
