Born in Cuba, Xiomara Reyes had an acclaimed international career as a Principal Dancer with American Ballet Theatre, where she performed for 14 years after dancing with the National Ballet of Cuba and the Royal Ballet of Flanders. Her repertoire spanned iconic classical roles and contemporary works by leading choreographers such as MacMillan, Ashton, Tudor, and Ratmansky. Reyes appeared as a guest artist across Europe, Asia, and the Americas, receiving international acclaim for her artistry, versatility, and emotional depth.
Following her retirement from the stage in 2015, Reyes transitioned into teaching and artistic leadership. She served as Head of School and later Professional Division Head at The Washington School of Ballet, where she developed innovative programs and choreographed original works including Chronos, now archived by the Library of Congress. A dedicated educator, choreographer, and international juror, she continues to share her passion as a freelance artist, recently staging Don Quixote for Hakucho Ballet’s 60th anniversary and creating new work for the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University.
