Maria Piedad

Maria Piedad is a choreographer, teacher, and dance theorist with a 26-year artistic career across Ecuador, Cuba, and the U.S. She graduated from the Cuban National Ballet School, the NYU-ABT and NYU-Tisch master’s programs. As an ABT-NTC Certified Teacher she has presented students for ABT examinations and worked at the ABT-JKO School. Maria was on faculty at American Youth Dance Theater, Ballet Hispanico, Brooklyn Ballet, Long Island Ballet Theatre, CUNY, among others. In Ecuador, she was artistic advisor and choreographer for Danzas, Performing Arts Center and ProDanza, Commercial Dance Company. A K–12 dance educator at the American and German Schools in Quito and faculty at the Alejo Carpentier Ballet School in Havana. She began her professional career in 1996 as a dancer with the National Ballet of Ecuador later becoming its Rehearsal Director.
