Bernstein MASS – This Shall Be Our Reply

Leonard Bernstein’s MASS was originally commissioned for the opening of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, blending elements of the Catholic Mass with theater, dance, and music to explore themes of faith, doubt, and community. In response to funding cuts to the NEA and the administrative overhaul of the Kennedy Center, artists throughout Washington, DC are joining forces in a collaborative production of MASS, affirming the spirit that gave life to the Kennedy Center with the very piece that opened it. CityDance is proud to join this collaboration, taking place September 4 + 5 | 7:00 p.m. at Mount Vernon Place United Methodist Church in Washington, DC. Our Conservatory dancers will perform in a piece choreographed by Sarah J. Ewing, CityDance Conservatory Head of Programming and Director of Contemporary Training.
