Advanced Flamenco

About This Class

Join Estela Vélez de Paredez for an advanced Flamenco class that will emphasize complex usage and layering of footwork, arm positions, turns, and hand clapping (palmas). Students will work on more intricate rhythms and dances and focus on mastering Flamenco technique and choreography.

Sign up now for the Summer Session, Tuesday, June 17 – Tuesday, August, 5, 2025. Classes will not be held on the following days:

Juneteenth: Thursday, June 19, 2025
4th of July Weekend: Friday, July 4 – Sunday, July 6, 2025
Flamenco Break: Tuesday, July 15 – Wednesday, July 16, 2025
Labor Day Weekend: Saturday, August 30 – Monday, September 1, 2025

The current session runs through Tuesday, May 27, 2025.

More About Flamenco & This Level

The dances of Spain are varied and rich in ethnic and regional traditions. Fluid arms and percussive footwork are hallmarks of Flamenco dance that are paralleled in the beautiful melodies and intricate rhythms of Flamenco music. Originating in the Andalusia region of southern Spain, the fire of Flamenco dance is reflective of its gypsy (Gitano) dancing roots and influences from Arabic traditions.

Mastery of Low Intermediate/Intermediate level and permission of instructor is required in order to register for this class. Students should always discuss changing levels with the instructor. Repeating a level for more than one semester is common and often required for the development of proper technique and artistry. Progress is dependent on the student’s commitment to class participation and at-home practice.

Cancellation/Reschedule Policy

If a class has low attendance, it may be subject to cancellation. Cancellation decisions for morning classes will be made by 9pm the night before and for evening classes by 3pm that day. In the event you cannot attend your purchased/scheduled drop-in class, please email adults@citydance.net by 9pm the day before to receive a full credit and/or reschedule your drop-in class. Cancellation emails received after 9pm the night before will receive a 50% class credit. If a cancellation email has not been sent before the start of class, our No Show policy takes effect and you will forfeit the full class credit.
