Founded in 1996, CityDance is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization recognized as an arts and education leader throughout the DC metropolitan area. With its mission to transform lives and communities through dance, CityDance produces and presents world-class dance; trains young dancers for professional careers; and uses dance to prepare youth for academic, professional, and personal success.
CITYDANCE PRESENTS brings acclaimed national and international companies to the region’s most prestigious performance venues.
CITYDANCE IGNITE supports rising choreographic stars to create, produce, and perform their own work.
CITYDANCE SCHOOL & CONSERVATORY prepares young dancers for 21st-century careers by providing students unparalleled opportunities to work and perform with professional artists and superlative training in ballet, contemporary, and world dance forms. The Conservatory is an audition-only professional training program. Graduates have gained acceptance at some of the country’s most prestigious dance colleges, summer programs and professional companies.
CITYDANCE POP! in Tenleytown, DC is CityDance’s destination for high quality, fast-paced fun, offering as many as 20 classes for ages 18 months to adult, ranging from Pre-Ballet to Zumba.
CITYDANCE DREAM is a nationally recognized after school program that provides dance training, performance opportunities, academic services and college readiness to DC youth. DREAM walks hand-in-hand with its students on a ten year journey from 3rd to 12th grades providing tuition-free, world-class dance training with academic support, college readiness and family services. DREAM provides equal access to the resources and opportunities students need to create their own success. DREAM is the recipient of the 2015 President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award and the 2010 DC Mayor’s Arts Awards for Outstanding Contribution to Arts Education. In Fall 2017, CityDance opened the DREAM Center for Dance in the heart of Washington, DC’s historic U Street neighborhood. The Center provides a comprehensive tuition-free dance program integrated with wrap-around academic, college prep, and family service for DC students in grades three through twelve.
CityDance is led by Alexe Nowakowski, President & CEO; Lorraine Spiegler, Artistic Director of the School & Conservatory; Kelli Quinn, Founding Director of DREAM; and Letitia Hays, Chief Operating Officer.
