Congratulations to Petite Conservatory Dancer Avani Agrawal, who received an Outstanding Dancer Runner Up Scholarship at NYCDA in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania last weekend! This scholarship allows Avani to compete at NYCDA Nationals this summer. In Pittsburgh, Avani also competed her contemporary solo, “Spindra”, by CityDance Conservatory Choreographer-in-Residence Robert J. Priore, for which she received a platinum award and 10th place overall. We are so proud of Avani and look forward to seeing her performance this summer!
We caught up with Avani following her weekend in Pittsburgh – here’s what she had to say about the convention: “NYCDA was an extraordinary experience because of the diverse styles of dance you learn from their incredible faculty. It’s so inspiring to be able to watch talented dancers that come from all over the US. They all are unique in their own ways, and I felt good to be with so many other really focsed and driven dancers, including ballet dancers too. Outside of the strictly ballet competitons, NYCDA is one of the few that has combined the commercial side of dance and ballet. I felt that I danced well and couldn’t have had a better weekend. I am thankful for everyone including my teachers, coaches and staff at CityDance, my family for their love and support and Joe Lanterei and entire the NYCDA faculty and staff that helped make my weekend so special!”
Stay tuned over the coming weeks as we check in with more of our students about their experiences training and attending competitions in the COVID era!
