On Saturday, February 13, the CityDance DREAM School presented its first dance film, Only The Good Things. The film featured the DREAM School Performance Ensemble in works by Yannick Lebrun of The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, international freelance artist Roderick George, DREAM Co-Director Chandini Darby and faculty member Monique Walker. The students performed these works at various sites around the District, including The Howard Theatre, Art of Noize and Capitol Hill Creative Studio. They also shared the ways in which dance and DREAM have kept them motivated during this uniquely difficult year.
Prior to the livestream premiere of Only The Good Things, the cast and DREAM Co-Directors Chandini Darby and Kelli Quinn met via Zoom with members of the CityDance Board of Directors, staff and friends to discuss their experiences working on the film. Live from the CityDance DREAM School on U Street, Chandini and Kelli facilitated a conversation between the students and guests about the artistic process, the challenges of filming site-specific work and the inspiration behind the film.
