PHILADANCO! & CityDance Young Program Intensive | Ages 8-11

This intensive is ideal for younger dancers interested in honing their skills in challenging ballet and contemporary classes. Daily training includes ballet, floor barre, modern, contemporary jazz, and Umfundalai. Young dancers will gain a better understanding of the African dance diaspora and its influence on the development of American contemporary dance expression in the PHILADANCO! tradition by sharing dance history through “The Black Ballerina” film and book written by PHILADANCO! Founder, Joan Myers Brown.

All students have ballet and contemporary technique each day as well as repertory experiences. Ballet pieces will be created by the CityDance Faculty and contemporary works will be learned from the current professional repertory of PHILADANCO! Dance Company.

Young Program Dancers will present their classical and modern/contemporary/jazz/Umfundalai repertory in a showing for family and friends at CityDance Studio Theater at Strathmore on the last day of the intensive.
