Introducing: ICONS Intensive Week 2 Faculty

We are excited to welcome former Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet artist Shaun Boyle D’Arcy and CityDance Conservatory's award-winning Choreographer-in-Residence Robert J. Priore to the CityDance ICONS & International Summer Intensive. These artists join Vladimir Angelov of Dance ICONS during the second week of the intensive, July 29 through August 2.

Meet the Faculty

Vladimir Angelov

Vladimir Angelov graduated in 1986 from the National Ballet School in Sofia, in his native Bulgaria. Parallel with his dancing career, he was also a Philosophy major at the University of Sofia. After immigrating to the US, he completed his Masters in Dance & Choreography at the American University in Washington, DC in 1996. Mr. Angelov's early choreographies were shown at the New Choreographers on Pointe in New York City, Vienna TanzFest in Austria, Paris International Dance Festival, Japan Fall Festival in Kyoto, All Latin American Dance Festival in Puerto Ricco, among many others.

International Consortium for Advancement in Choreography (ICONS) is a global network for choreographers of all levels of experience, nationalities,and genres. ICONS offers a cloud-based platform for knowledge exchange, collaboration, inspiration and debate. Dance ICONS is based in Washington, DC and serves choreographers the world over.

Shaun Boyle D'Arcy

Shaun Boyle is a dance practitioner and educator with research interests in classical and contemporary ballet, modern / contemporary dance and choreographic practice. Shaun has performed in both ballet and contemporary dance companies including Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet, BalletMet, Cherylyn Lavagnino Dance and The Dario Vaccaro Dance Project, amongst others. She has also performed in projects such as David Dorfman's ‘Underground’ at the BAM Nextwave Festival and in the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay performances in England. Shaun’s choreographic work has been showcased nationally and internationally, and she has been a recipient of The Field's Artist Residency grant in New York, the Djerassi Resident Artists Program in California and the prestigious choreographic initiative DanceLines at the Royal Opera House in London. Shaun holds a BFA in Dance with Honors from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and an MA in Choreography with Distinction from The Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London. Shaun has served as a full-time faulty member at the University of California, Irvine and the University of Utah and has taught at several other dance institutions and universities in the United States and United Kingdom. Currently, Shaun is based in the Washington, DC metro area.

Robert J. Priore

Robert J. Priore founded his company PrioreDance in the fall of 2016. He is also very proud to be a founding member of Company | E, where he has had the honor of dancing works by Ohad Naharin, Andrea Miller, Sharon Eyal, Rachel Erdos, Roni Koresh, Marco Cantalupo and Thomas Noone. Robert continues to hone his craft while being the Choreographer-In-Residence for the CityDance Conservatory as well as an Ignite Artist. Robert received a BFA in dance from Point Park University. Robert was a 2015 recipient of the John F. Kennedy Center Local Dance Commissioning Project and created a special work for the artists of Company | E, Speak Easy. Speak Easy has been on the road, being presented in collaboration with Company | E, in Russia, Azerbaijan, Cuba and most recently in Ukraine. In 2016, 2017 and 2018 Robert also was named an outstanding fellow in the arts in his home of the District of Columbia. Last November, Robert presented a new work at the Dance Gallery Festival in New York City, being named one of the three Level-Up commissioned choreographers. In January of 2017, Robert held a workshop at La Fábrica in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and set a work on local professionals. In April of 2017, Robert traveled to Holguin, Cuba to set an original work on the dancers of CoDanza. In Fall of 2017, Robert returned to Holguin with fellow dancer Abby Leithart to perform the premier of Casita with CoDanza at the Vladimir Malakhov Grand Prix, where the piece won the audience choice award. In July of 2018, PrioreDance was chosen to perform Priore’s choreography at the InsideOut Stage at the prestigious Jacob’s Pillow. In September 2018, Robert and five dancers returned to Holguin to present excerpt of Cirque De Nuit for the Vladimir Malakhov Grand Prix. Most recently, Robert was commissioned to create a work for the Mark Twain Prize Award Ceremony, which was nationally televised on PBS mid-November 2018. Robert was awarded the Pola Nirenska Memorial Award in 2019 for outstanding contribution to art in the District of Columbia, which is given to one dance artist per year.
