The CityDance Ignite Resident Artist program furthers the professional dance field by providing a career-launching program for talented DC-area choreographers. We seek out visionary artists who are driven to become successful independent choreographers or artistic directors and provide the resources and mentorship needed to develop sustainable careers. Our belief that their singular contributions are integral to our dance community and culture at large drives our program. We champion these artists and serve as the connecting piece between high-quality dance and appreciative audiences across the city. Artists receive year-round rehearsal space, marketing and technical support for one production each year, fiscal sponsorship, and grant sourcing and funder solicitation advice. In 2017, the program expanded to offer additional project-based residencies for emerging DC-based choreographers who were creating their first professional projects. Through the program, resident artists have presented at Jacob’s Pillow, the Kennedy Center and Sidney Harman Hall. They have toured throughout the U.S. as well as Cuba and New Zealand.
