In Memoriam: Arthur Mitchell
All of us at CityDance are saddened to hear of the passing of the great dance visionary Arthur Mitchell last week. We are incredibly proud of our ongoing partnership with the iconic company he founded, Dance Theatre of Harlem, and we look forward to continuing Mr. Mitchell's legacy through dance education and performance in the greater Washington, DC area.
From CityDance School & Conservatory Founding Artistic Director, Lorraine Spiegler:
"Our partnership with DTH, and in particular our summer intensive, has been invaluable and inspiring across the institution. Our shared summer intensive grows in numbers each year and draws students from the broad stroke of racial and ethnic backgrounds through a vision for dynamism and unity. The DTH @ CityDance teaching faculty have all danced with the legendary leader and exemplify Arthur Mitchell's passion and sense of excellence. The summer intensive represents our ongoing commitment to Arthur Mitchell's founding school and company principles and his life promise - dance and classical ballet are for everyone. As Arthur Mitchell passes on, we celebrate his vision and dream for ballet as a truly American dance form in embracing and embodying the beautiful representation of diversity, the hallmark of American Dance."
