Conservatory Dancer Trains at the Houston Ballet
Given the calibre of her performances, Raquel was called to the judges table by YAGP Founder and Artistic Director Larissa Saveliev to speak with Sally Rojas of Houston Ballet, who offered Raquel a full short-term scholarship to study at Houston Ballet during this season.Raquel studied at Houston Ballet from February 17 to 24 and thoroughly enjoyed her time there. Raquel trained from 7am to 5pm every day. She took classes with students from the professional program as well as dancers from Houston Ballet II. The curriculum included classical ballet technique, pointe and pas de deux with Claudio Munoz, the Ballet Master of Houston Ballet II. She also participated in repertory sessions, learning choreography from the Houston Ballet company, as well as taking contemporary and conditioning classes.
Raquel thoroughly enjoyed her time there, stating:
"Spending the week studying at Houston Ballet was a great experience. I really enjoyed watching the professional company members in class and rehearsal. I was inspired watching them and I know that with hard work and dedication I will one day join the ranks of a professional company. I also received special recognition from Claudio Munoz, Ballet Master of Houston Ballet II who complimented me on my great training and had me demonstrate in class. I am thankful that I attended YAGP Pittsburgh as I would not have been offered this amazing experience without the exposure to the professional panel of judges including Houston Ballet!"
