CityDance DREAM seniors Jadyn, Keith, Nina and Shanya, along with DREAM Founding Director Kelli Quinn and Associate Director of Student Development Chandini Darby, traveled to California in January to attend the International Association of Blacks in Dance (IABD) 30th Annual International Conference and Festival. IABD preserves and promotes dance by people of African ancestry or origin and assists in advocacy, audience development, education, funding, networking, performance, philosophical dialogue and touring. Lula Washington Dance Theatre hosted the Annual Conference and Festival this year in Los Angeles.
They took classes in Dunham Technique, Modern, Ballet, Hip Hop and Afro-Fusion with dance greats such as Anthony Burrell, Christopher L. Huggins, Stephanie Powell and more. In addition, DREAM students attended a presentation and panel discussion about honoring the Legacy of Blacks in Dance and a culminating performance by the professional companies participating in the Conference.
Stay tuned for more about DREAM's time with our partners at The Wooden Floor and other California adventures.
