Donate to DREAM this #GivingTuesday
This spring, CityDance DREAM student Nina Matthews sat in front of the DC Council to advocate for out-of-school time activities in DC Public Schools, and her words and poise still resonate with us.
"In the dance studio, I am challenged to see myself in new ways, to push past my limits and to reach for something more out of my mind and my body. The other DREAM students and teachers remind me of what I am capable of and what I want for myself, what we all want for ourselves, and that is to use all the talent, energy and intelligence that is inside of us. We want to be great, inside of the dance studio and outside of it. We want to be great dancers, get good grades, be good friends and good daughters and sons, and we want to go to college. At DREAM, we are given a chance to do all of it."
- Nina Matthews
We can all agree, it is no easy task to speak in front of a group of people, especially in an unfamiliar setting. Nina demonstrated discipline, focus and confidence, all skills she gained during her time with DREAM. This fall, Nina started her freshman year at Spelman College where she is an auditioned member of the Spelman Dance Theatre. She will undoubtedly carry those qualities with her throughout her time in college and the rest of her life.
At the heart of CityDance is a commitment to dance as a powerful tool of transformation and leadership. This Giving Tuesday, we hope you will contribute to CityDance DREAM knowing that your gift will support the hopes and dreams of all of our DREAM students with journeys similar to Nina’s.
