COVID-19 Impact - The DREAM School goes Virtual!
As a result of COVID-19, we have taken our programming online so that we can continue to provide training and a support system for our students!
The DREAM at-home experience includes an online portal for students via BANDS which delivers curated digital dance classes and content. We are also providing Language Arts programming for middle schoolers; tutoring sessions with the DREAM Academic Services Manager; and College Readiness program activities, including intensive mentorship for seniors, online.
The DREAM School leadership and staff continue to remain in close communication with all students and their family's through individual as well as program-wide communications to ensure continued support and sharing of information about additional available resources.
The DREAM School
In Fall 2017, CityDance opened The DREAM School in the heart of Washington, DC’s U Street neighborhood. The DREAM School provides a comprehensive tuition-free dance program integrated with wrap-around academic, college prep and family services for DC students in grades 3 through 12.
At The DREAM School, we address the needs of the whole child through a 10-year journey with a goal for students to graduate from high school, enroll in college and be equipped with the tools and skills necessary to pursue their full potential. These goals are achieved through the following four core program elements:
Dance Education and Performance are the core transformational elements through which our youth develop the ability to reach their full potential. Dance has the ability to encourage youth to think differently about themselves, to push through obstacles and to emerge as strong and confident leaders. It is why our students call DREAM their second home. On the dance floor, they feel supported and are able to embody who they really are. Dance breaks down barriers. It allows our students to have a voice, to be seen and to know that they matter.
Academic Services (grades 3-12) provide early and consistent academic intervention to ensure on-time high school graduation.
College Readiness (grades 8-12) removes barriers to college access with programs that prepare parents / guardians to support their child’s path through college logistically, financially and emotionally.
Family Engagement and Support Services (grades 3-12) focus on the well-being of youth in their individual family contexts.
Journey of a DREAM Student
