CityDance DREAM

DREAM Center for Dance

In Fall 2017, CityDance opened the DREAM Center for Dance in the heart of Washington, DC’s U street historic neighborhood. The Center provides a comprehensive tuition-free dance program integrated with wrap-around academic, college prep, and family service for D.C. students in grades three through twelve.

At the DREAM Center for Dance we address the needs of the whole child through a 10-year journey (grades 3-12) with a goal for students to graduate from High School, enroll in college, and be equipped with the tools and skills necessary to pursue their full potential. These goals are achieved through the following four core program elements:

Dance Education and Performance are the core transformational elements through which our youth develop the ability to reach their full potential. Dance has the ability to encourage youth to think differently about themselves, to push through obstacles, and emerge as strong and confident leaders. It is why our students call DREAM their second home.  On the dance floor, they feel supported and are able to embody who they really are. Dance breaks down barriers. It allows our students to have a voice, to be seen, and to know that they matter.

Academic Services (grades 3-12) provide early and consistent academic intervention to ensure on-time high school graduation and college-readiness. The goal is to provide students with the tools, knowledge, and life skills to manage the academic transitions from elementary to middle to high school and beyond.

College Readiness (grades 8-12) removes barriers to college access with programs that prepare parents/guardians to support their child’s path through college logistically, financially, and emotionally.

Family Engagement and Support Services (grades 3-12) focus on the well-being of each youth in their individual family context. The program seeks to ensure that every one of its students can pursue their goals in safe and supportive environments in all areas of their lives.
