CityDance Ensemble is a repertory dance company with an exceptionally diverse range and style of work in the canon. The company prides itself on its range, athleticism and adaptability. The company's national and international concert repertory features world renowned choreographers like Paul Taylor (Esplanade, Last Look and Images are both in the current repertory), American Masterpiece: Dance designees Folksay (1942) by Sophie Maslow and Harmonica Breakdown (1938) by Jane Dudley and exceptional work by today's emerging stars (Christopher K. Morgan, Kate Weare, Larry Keigwin and many others).
Concerts can be built around these programs, and with a keen eye towards a presenters needs, be they for cutting edge concerts or for programming geared towards audiences less versed in contemporary dance.
The concert season is built around three signature series, and with a special emphasis on climate change.
The NEXT Series commissions new dances every season from emerging choreographers ready for the world stage, forging new works that are innovative, challenging, and exciting.
The Legacy Series returns historic dance masterpieces to the repertory in commitment to celebrating the art form’s distinguished past while staging works that remain relevant today.
The Originals Series commissions original scores by leading composers from across the musical spectrum, creating new works that range in style from classical to contemporary.
