FilmWORKS Festivals & Screenings

CityDance FilmWORKS premiered its first eight films in 2003 at Visions Cinema/Bistro, an independent movie house in Washington, DC. Since then, FilmWORKS has presented three international dance-on-camera festivals in the Washington, DC area.

FilmWORKS’ first international dance-on-camera festival was presented in 2004 in partnership with DancePlace, a community arts center in Washington, DC. Later that year, FilmWORKS partnered with the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts to present its second international dance-on-camera festival. In 2005, FilmWORKS partnered with the Music Center at Strathmore to present its third international dance-on-camera festival. During these festivals, FilmWORKS screened original films, as well as films from twelve other countries. Presented before packed houses, these films earned rave reviews, garnering praise from The Washington Times who noted that with these films “an art is born.” 

FilmWORKS films have also been presented in festivals around the world. In 2004, the London Dance-On-Camera Festival screened a FilmWORKS film, followed by a screening at the International Dance-On-Camera Festival in Brazil in 2005.
