After a remarkable run of concert appearances in its first full season, from the Goose Route Dance Festival and the MetroDC Dances in the summer of 2009 to its performance on the South Lawn of the White House and as a featured artist at the 2010 40th Anniversary of Earth Day on the National Mall, CityDance2 comes home to Strathmore for a evening of new and classic CityDance works.
With a special appearance by world music ensemble Bottomland the evening promises to be a special closing night for Washington's annual celebration of dance.
Many of CityDance's all-time classic dances, from Artistic Director Paul Gordon Emerson's celebration of flight and the power of nature, "Peregrine" to Eric Hampton's beloved "Girl Friends" to Adrain Bolton's timeless "Givin' Up" are returned to the stage along with elegant new works by Leslie Scott, Delphina Parenti and CD2 company member Kate Jordan. Emerson and Jordan bring an environmental focus to the program with two dances performed at the 40th anniversary of Earth Day.
Matt Jones, Amikaeyla Gaston, Anderson Allen, Saleem Wayne Waters, Wendy Lanxner -- the core of Bottomland -- join CD for "Peregrine" a collaboration between they and Emerson which launched a new era for CityDance in the first days of 2000. Jones and Allen wrote "Peregrine" for Emerson's first concert as Artistic Director, kicking off CityDance's signature "originals series" of live and original music with "Peregrine," and its a collaboration which continues to today, a decade later.
Hampton and Bolton, DC legends, made dances which are as fresh today as they were when they were made 15 years ago.
Don't miss the season's closing concert and CityDance2's inaugural evening-length program. And stay Sunday for the closing night reception of sponsor and partner Dance MetroDC and Dance is the Answer. |
